The first two Genius Award winners in Theater, Chris Jeffries (2003) and Sarah Rudinoff (2004) will present a night of scintillating repartee and song, created especially for The Frye Genius / 21 Century / Seattle exhibition. Composer/lyricist Chris Jeffries and performer Sarah Rudinoff have 50 years of experience between them in every kind of medium from camp to the avant-garde. The performance will include original music, interpreted classics and as much truth and lies as can be held in one evening.

About the artists

Chris Jeffries’ latest musical, based on Jane Austen’s Persuasion, was just presented at 5th Avenue Theatre’s NextFest. He has written the book, music, and lyrics for Moon of My Delight (Empty Space), Vera Wilde (Winner of 4 SFBATCC awards), The Glory Booty Club (Garland Award), I See London, I See France and The Fatty Arbuckle Spook House Revue (Annex Theatre, Yale School of Drama). Music and lyric credits include Laura Comstock’s Bag-Punching Dog (Los Angeles, Ovation and LA Weekly Awards) and Horse Opera (NEA Consortium). His music for Bunnicula (Seattle Children’s Theatre) is heard worldwide. In progress: a musical based on Jack Kerouac’s Maggie Cassidy.

Sarah Rudinoff has been performing in Seattle for 20 years. Her solo shows include Broad, Go There, The Last State, and the upcoming NowNowNow, which will premiere at On the Boards in 2016. Her solo work has been seen at OtB, Re-bar, Bumbershoot, and toured PICA’s TBA Festival (Portland), HBO Workspace (LA), Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), and Adelaide Festival (Australia). Sarah has sung and acted all over Seattle including The Seattle Rep, The 5th Ave, ACT, The Triple Door, Showbox, and Vito’s. Sarah collaborated as a writer/producer/performer in the new play about women rock musicians during Seattle grunge explosion entitled These Streets.
