Water Games and Monsters’ Groves: Mannerist Gardens

In late Renaissance Italy, both painters and garden designers prized artificiality and virtuosity. At Villa d’Este, Villa Lante, and the Sacro Bosco of Bomarzo, architects and hydraulic engineers astounded viewers with elaborate water features and exotic sculpture.

Individual tickets may be available for purchase on a space-available basis on the day of each lecture. Tickets are released first-come, first-served. Individual tickets for each Thursday evening lecture and reception are $11 members, seniors, students, teachers, artists; $16 nonmembers. Individual tickets for Friday morning lectures are $10 members, seniors, students, teachers, artists; $15 nonmembers.
