Education Wing Exhibition – Repeat—The Sampling and Storytelling Remix

June 7, 2008 - September 28, 2008

For the post-MTV generation the notion of "remixing" in music is ubiquitous. With this in mind, teens in Sampling and Storytelling, a SHFT studio art program, were introduced to the art of Dario Robleto, a visual artist who transcribes DJ techniques into his practice. Under the guidance of Gretchen Bennett, teaching artist, students came to understand the ways in which sampling becomes an entry point into history, retelling its stories in new forms.

Mining memories, reflecting on past experiences, and sharing personal narratives, Repeat—The Sampling and Storytelling Remix is a compilation of these young artists' artworks. Revealing and thought-provoking, they are the students' individual remixes of Robleto's ideas, and this exhibition a reprise of the Frye's Heaven vs. Love mash-up.
