My Body is a Basket brings together works by Brenda Mallory, Danielle Morsette, and Sara Siestreem—three Indigenous artists based in Washington and Oregon whose practices push textile traditions into unexpected terrain. Across sculpture, weaving, and mixed-media painting, in the tight weft of a wool tapestry or the stapled bundling of found fibers, basketry serves as both method and metaphor. Conceived in dialogue with the nationally touring An Indigenous Present, the exhibition grounds a broader conversation about Indigenous modern and contemporary art in the Pacific Northwest, where these artists transform ancestral teachings into something distinctly of this time and place.

My Body is a Basket is organized by Faith Brower, Director and Curator of Collections, and Asia Tail, Independent Curator.

Generous support provided by the Raynier Institute & Foundation and Frye members. Media sponsorship provided by Encore Media Group.

Our work is supported, in part, by an award from 4Culture.
