Shades of Grey: WAEA Student Exhibition
February 21 - June 07, 2009
This year’s annual Washington Art Education Association student exhibition originates from teachers and students working with the artwork and ideas from the special exhibitions Napoleon on the Nile: Soldiers, Artists, and the Rediscovery of Egypt and Empire at the Frye in the fall of 2008. This program provides elementary through high school students the opportunity for creative thinking in visual arts and the experience of exhibiting their work in an art museum. Teachers encouraged students to explore topics in history and science through art activities such as mapping environments and cultures. Activities also included creating portraits based on themes of personal and cultural identity. The result of this inquiry is evident in the artwork by nineteen Washington students in grades 4-12 presented in this exhibition.
