Small Frye: Storytelling in the Galleries

First Fridays, 11:15– 11:45 am

Classic children’s stories and contemporary favorites are brought to life in the Frye galleries for children three-to-five years old and their parents or caregivers.

Through stories and characters, Small Frye introduces children to a wide variety of words and sounds that will prepare them for reading and writing. Movement and play are incorporated into story time, fostering creative thinking and problem solving in an interdisciplinary environment.

Stories about care and nurturing are the themes from February through April. After story time, explore artworks and exhibitions in our galleries and enjoy kid-friendly snacks in the Frye Café.

Small Frye is presented by the Frye Art Museum in partnership with Seattle Children’s Theatre.

Preschool classes please book a group reservation by email or (206) 432-8211.

DURING MUSEUM REFURBISHMENT PROGRAMS CONTINUE AT SKYLINE

We have begun the countdown for the celebration of the Frye Art Museum’s 60th Anniversary this summer.

To serve our visitors better and to ensure optimal conditions for works of art, the Frye Art Museum will temporarily close April 17, 2012, for refurbishment.

During this time our programs will be relocated to comfortable rooms in Skyline at First Hill, 725 9th Avenue, just one block away from the Museum. Parking is free in the Museum lot, as always, and convenient to Skyline.

The Gallery Café and the Art Studio will reopen June 19 with access through the entrance on Columbia Street.

The Museum galleries will open again July 14, 2012. Watch for news of our 60th Anniversary exhibitions, programs, and special events.

Tips for Parents and Caregivers at Small Frye Programs

Strollers, Backpacks, and Diaper Bags

You may bring a frontal carrier into the Museum. Strollers should be parked in the Rotunda and diaper bags and backpacks checked at the Information Desk.

Look But Please Don’t Touch

Help us preserve these works of art for future generations. Please make sure your children do not touch the artwork. A good general rule is to stand at least three feet away from a work of art.

Take it Easy!

Viewing a few artworks with young children on a single visit is a great introduction to the world of art. Looking closely at two or three works of art is an enriching activity.

Hungry?

The Museum Cafe serves kid-friendly food and high chairs are available. Food purchased in the café must be eaten there or be wrapped to-go. Due to space limitations, we cannot accommodate brown-bag lunches and snacks. Food and liquids are not permitted in the galleries.

Need a Restroom?

All of the restrooms in the Museum are equipped with diaper-changing stations.

Museum Store

The Museum Store carries all the books on the Small Frye reading list, as well as toys and other fun items related to the collections and exhibitions.

Have fun and enjoy your visit!
