Frye Galleries

Friday March 6, 2020 Small Frye Storytelling + Art has been canceled.

The Museum is following current recommendations from King County Public Health to limit community gatherings in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our region. At this time, we've had no reports of any Frye Art Museum visitor, staff member, or vendor with direct exposure to the virus.

While we are suspending public programming through March, Museum galleries, Store, and Café Frieda will remain open on a regular schedule. Please visit our website for the most up-to-date programming information.

We appreciate your patience as we work to assist our community in staying safe and healthy!

A free program for children ages three to five years old and their care givers. You’ll start in the museum galleries with Seattle Children's Theatre as they weave together an imaginative narrative in a dramatic book reading. Following the story, children registered for art-making will create a work of art inspired by the book’s themes. Art making provides an opportunity to creatively express science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts and to practice twenty-first-century skills. Books, themes, and art activities change each month.

Tips for Parents and Caregivers at Small Frye Programs

Strollers, Backpacks, and Diaper Bags

You may bring a frontal carrier into the Museum. Strollers should be parked in the Rotunda and diaper bags and backpacks checked at the Information Desk.

Look But Please Don’t Touch

Help us preserve these works of art for future generations. Please make sure your children do not touch the artwork. A good general rule is to stand at least three feet away from a work of art.

Take it Easy!

Viewing a few artworks with young children on a single visit is a great introduction to the world of art. Looking closely at two or three works of art is an enriching activity.

The Museum Cafe serves kid-friendly food and high chairs are available. Food purchased in the café must be eaten there or be wrapped to-go. Due to space limitations, we cannot accommodate brown-bag lunches and snacks. Food and liquids are not permitted in the galleries.

Need a Restroom?

All of the restrooms in the Museum are equipped with diaper-changing stations.

Museum Store

The Museum Store carries some of the books on the Small Frye reading list, as well as toys and other fun items related to the collections and exhibitions.
