Expressive Ink: Landscape to Abstraction

Expressive Ink: Landscape to Abstraction

Inspired by works on view in Frye Salon and Jonathan Lasker: Drawings and Studies, this six-week course invites you to explore varied methods of mark-making, translating ways of seeing into both representational and abstract art using ink as the primary medium.

Through weekly drawing and painting exercises, you will experiment with line, gesture, and composition while developing your own visual language. Guided by a Frye Teaching Artist, the course encourages playful exploration, creative confidence, and the sharing of ideas within a supportive community of fellow participants.

About this program

Creative Aging Studio Series programs are designed for adults aged 60+ and focus on creative exploration, skill-building, and community. Please note that this series is not designed as a dementia-inclusive program; the Frye offers other Creative Aging programs specifically designed for individuals living with memory loss and their care partners.

The series concludes with an informal showcase to celebrate your work. No previous art experience is required. All materials are provided.

Frye Ticketing Fee Philosophy

The museum uses a tiered fee structure for select programs and events. Charging moderate fees allows the museum to invest in diverse and engaging programming, supports program costs, and helps us maximize event attendance.

If you are able, we ask that you purchase a General Class Registration ticket; Community Access pricing is available to those who need it. If pricing is an issue for you for any reason, please contact creativeaging@fryemuseum.org.

Missed Classes

There are no discounts or refunds for missed classes.

Waiting Lists

If a class is full, contact creativeaging@fryemuseum.org to be placed on a waitlist. If space becomes available, waitlisted students are contacted in sequential order by e-mail. Payment is not collected until a waitlisted student confirms they want to enroll in the open spot. Please do not attend the first session unless you have received enrollment confirmation from Frye staff.

To withdraw from a registered class, students must contact Frye Creative Aging staff by phone or email and request. Students who withdraw 10 or more days prior to the class start date are eligible for a refund. Withdrawals made fewer than 10 days before the first class session are not eligible for a refund. Refunds are issued within 30 business days of the withdrawal date.

Class Cancellation

Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment one week prior to the start date may be cancelled. Registered students will receive a full refund and notification by phone.
