Sculpting with Light: A Family Workshop Inspired by Tom Lloyd

Sculpting with Light: A Family Workshop Inspired by Tom Lloyd

What happens when light passes through colorful materials? Why do some colors glow while others change? What can you discover when you experiment—and create—together with your young tinkerer? Join a hands-on workshop inspired by Tom Lloyd and find out!

Co-create an illuminated sculpture as you and your loved one(s) play with light, color, reflection, and form, discovering how everyday materials can be transformed into dazzling works of art. Working with LED lights, transparent colorful acrylic discs, and cardboard tubes you’ll design and build a one-of-a-kind sculpture while experimenting with layering, color mixing, and reflection. Along the way, discover how Lloyd pioneered the creative use of light as an artistic medium.

Designed for ages eight and up, this two-hour workshop invites youth and their adults to explore the intersection of art, design, and technology through collaborative, hands-on making. Whether you come with your child, grandchild, family member or friend, you'll leave with a unique sculpture, new creative skills, and a fresh perspective
