Jazz in the City | The nu Trio

Jazz in the City | The nu Trio

Enjoy live jazz in the Frye's acoustically stunning auditorium with Jazz in the City at the Frye Art Museum, presented in partnership with Ariel Media. This ongoing concert series celebrates the rich legacy and cultural impact of jazz—and its role in shaping Seattle’s artistic identity—through performances by some of the city’s most acclaimed musicians.

About the Performers

Founded in 2014 by Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame artist Nathan Breedlove, the adventurous, avant-garde sounds of The nu Trio bring together Breedlove on trumpet, Phil Sparks on bass, and Brian Kirk on drums.

Nathan Breedlove is a trumpeter and composer, a two-time GRAMMY-nominated artist, former member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, and former frontman for the Skatalites.

Phil Sparks is among Seattle’s leading bassists, having performed with nearly every major jazz group in the city. He is an Origin Records artist and a founding member of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra.

Brian Kirk is Professor of Jazz, Electronic Music, Music Theory, and Percussion at Seattle Central College. Raised in San Francisco, he has performed with artists including Gladys Knight, Marlena Shaw, and Joe Henderson.

Generous support for Jazz in the City is provided by Frye members. Media support is provided by KNKX.

A special thank you to 4Culture for supporting our free and low-cost public programs.

If ticket cost is an issue for you for any reason, please contact learning@fryemuseum.org.
