Stories From the Club: Artist Talk with Chloe King
Relive your best (or laugh at your worst) party moments with Boren Banner artist Chloe King. Extending their ongoing inquiry into the politics of the dance floor through vivid color and light, King’s vibrant new banner is an open invitation to drop everything and dance at the corner of Boren and Cherry.
As part of her practice, King collects stories from the club, the preparty, and the afterparty—spaces that offer protection, joy, and reinvention to so many. Learn how these oral histories shape and sustain her work, and share your own experience with fellow party-goers.
What to expect
- 5–6 pm: Come early and share your own party stories with Chloe King during happy hour at MariPili at Café Frieda, or drop into the Studio for an art activity inspired by the Boren Banner.
- 6–7 pm: Head to the Auditorium for an artist talk, followed by community storytelling with Chloe King and members of the audience sharing their own party experience.
- 7–8 pm: Stick around for more storytelling and mingling in the Frye Parlor.
About the Artist
Chloe King works across photography, video, painting, and installation, creating works that question the act of legitimization, specifically how and which stories are recorded in history. Drawing from the histories of photography, film, and Black science fiction, they interrogate the construction of narratives and how cultural memory is shaped through images and storytelling. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts, King has exhibited in Seattle and beyond.
Boren Banner Series: Chloe King is organized by Alexis L. Silva, Curatorial Assistant.
Generous support provided by Frye members. Media sponsorship provided by the International Examiner.
Our work is supported, in part, by an award from 4Culture.
