Artist Talk: Inside Blake Blanco's Surreal World

Registration for this event will open soon. Frye members get first access to public program registration.

Step into the colorful digital world of Seattle artist Blake Blanco in this intimate program and live demonstration of his unique artistic process.

In his new work for the Frye's Boren Banner Series, Blanco blends traditional painting techniques and cutting-edge technology, transforming ideas inspired by ancient mythology and fate into vibrant contemporary art.

Follow along as Blanco creates in virtual reality (VR), with a live view of his creative process, then watch his ideas take shape through a 3D printing demonstration.

About the Artist

Blake Blanco defines his work as Neo-Realism, infusing everyday moments with abstract forms to explore religion, mythology, and the post-technological landscape. He uses an automatist approach, choosing color and markings to disrupt legibility and to signify a permanent state of transition. Blanco’s work has been exhibited locally at Steve Gilbert Studio, Davidson Gallery, Soil Art Gallery, The Factory: Museum of Museums, and Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and internationally at 19 Karen Contemporary Art Space (Mermaid Beach, Australia).

Boren Banner Series: Blake Blanco is organized by Alexis L. Silva, Curatorial Assistant.

Generous support provided by Frye members.

Our work is supported, in part, by an award from 4Culture.
