Lecture Recording | Julia Morgan and Hearst Castle

The first woman to obtain an architecture degree from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Morgan was hired by William Randolph Hearst in 1919 to design a residence and guest houses overlooking the Hearst ranch in San Simeon, California. For 28 years she supervised construction of the grandiose estate Hearst called the “enchanted hill.”
