Digital Guide to the Frye Art Museum

Please be respectful of the experience of other museum guests when listening to audio content in the galleries. We strongly encourage the use of personal headphones, but you may listen directly from your phone at a low volume.

Tip: audio will play through your phone's earpiece, so you can raise your device to your ear as if you were taking a call.

Prefer to read? Transcripts for all pieces of audio and video content are available in the app.

Plan Your Trip

Check out current exhibitions, learn more about the museum, and navigate the galleries with a museum map featuring many of the works on view.

Bloomberg Connects is the free arts and culture app, providing digital guides to more than six hundred cultural organizations from around the world. The app is an initiative of Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Each guide on the app, including the Frye's, is produced by the participating institution itself, and hosts information about works on view and how to navigate and engage with the space.

To access the guide, download the Bloomberg Connects app from your device's app store. The app, and all guides within it, are free to browse.

If you've downloaded and opened the app from the link above, or a QR code provided by the Frye, you should be launched directly in to the Frye's guide. If not, you can search for and launch the Frye's guide once you've opened the app.

The Bloomberg Connects app and all guides within it are designed to exceed accessibility standards and work with most assistive technology on both Android and iOS phones, including screen readers, zoom, and increased contrast. It is also compatible with keyboard or switch control navigation. Text content can be viewed at larger sizes. Each piece of audio and video has an associated transcript, while the video player supports subtitles/captions and audio descriptions. The app also supports Color Inversion and every screen is usable in portrait or landscape orientation.

App content is available in over 40 languages through a Google Translate integration. Choose the language you'd like to view content in when you launch the Frye's guide.

All automatically translated content is noted in the app.

You can listen on your phone, but please be respectful to the other visitors by keeping the volume at an appropriate level. Audio plays from your device's earpiece, so you can listen comfortably while holding it up to your ear (as if you are on a call).

If the museum is crowded or use of the guide becomes disruptive, you may be asked to turn the volume on your device down.

Navigation in the Frye's guide is based on exhibitions, all of which are listed in the "On View" section on the guide's primary tab. Once you've selected an exhibition, you can view artworks or items that have associated content within the app. Some exhibitions may feature texts for all items, whereas others may only include extra content for selected works.

You may also notice numbers or QR codes throughout the museum next to exhibition texts or individual artworks. Use the "Lookup" tab (second from the left) in the guide to navigate directly to any associated information.

The Frye's guide is designed to be useful and interesting both on-site at the Frye or before or after your visit. Use it to plan for your next trip, or revisit your favorite pieces.
