Curator Talk: Jamie Wyeth and His Legacy

Curator Talk: Jamie Wyeth and His Legacy

Focusing on the strange, intense, and often unsettling elements of Jamie Wyeth’s paintings, Amanda Burdan, Senior Curator at the Brandywine Museum of Art and a leading scholar on Wyeth, offers a fresh perspective on the artist’s work in Jamie Wyeth: Unsettled.

Learn how Wyeth’s unique practice and artistic journey sets him apart from the legacy of his famous family, and discover the layered tension that lies just beneath the surface of his paintings.

Renowned for its extensive collection of Wyeth family art, the Brandywine Museum of Art houses the largest repository of Jamie Wyeth’s work and maintains a deep, long-standing relationship with the artist and his family.

About the presenter:

A specialist in American art, Amanda Burdan is the Senior Curator at the Brandywine Museum of Art. She also oversees the Museum’s historic properties (the N.C. Wyeth House and Studio, the Kuerner Farm, and the Andrew Wyeth Studio) and the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Research Center at the Museum, which holds many Wyeth-related archival materials. Each year she undertakes a reinterpretation of one aspect of the Wyeth’s lives and work at the properties. Amanda joined the curatorial staff of the Brandywine River Museum of Art in 2012 and previously worked in the curatorial departments at the Florence Griswold Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Brown University.

Jamie Wyeth: Unsettled is organized by Brandywine Museum of Art and curated by Amanda Burdan, Senior Curator. The Frye Art Museum's presentation is under the direction of Faith Brower, Director and Curator of Collections.
