Curator Talk: On Black Refractions

On June 23, 2021, Connie H. Choi, Associate Curator of the Permanent Collection at The Studio Museum in Harlem and curator of the Frye’s latest exhibition, Black Refractions: Highlights from The Studio Museum in Harlem, led a virtual tour and conversation about this landmark exhibition. Black Refractions features works in a variety of mediums by nearly eighty artists and celebrates The Studio Museum in Harlem’s role as a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.

Connie H. Choi is the Associate Curator, Permanent Collection at The Studio Museum in Harlem, where she has worked on the exhibitions Black Refractions: Highlights from The Studio Museum in Harlem, Fictions, Regarding the Figure, and Their Own Harlems. Prior to joining the Studio Museum, Choi was the assistant curator of American art at the Brooklyn Museum. She has a Ph.D. in art history from Columbia University and an Ed.M. in arts education from Harvard University.
