Born in Tennessee, Delaney studied painting in Boston then matured his craft in New York before moving to Paris in 1953. His work comprises streetscapes, portraits, and abstractions. Close friend James Baldwin wrote, “I learned about light from Beauford Delaney. The light contained in every thing, in every surface, in every face.”
