berette s macaulay is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and scholar from Jamaica and Sierra Leone. Her practices and research interrogate multiple themes such as be/longing, identity-performance, illegibility, love, memory, and mythmaking. Exhibition spaces include Art Alive Gallery, India; Annenberg Space for Photography, LA; MOCADetroit (online); and 4Culture Media Gallery (forthcoming), WA; with permanently collected works in the National Gallery of Jamaica. Publications include Henry Art Gallery’s In Plain Sight exhibition guide, F213/NCWCA Exhibition catalogue, National Portrait Gallery (London), UNESCO Courier, and the World Policy Journal. Her recent curatorial work Exploring Passages in the Black Diaspora (2020) was at Photographic Center Northwest. Awards include Simpson Center’s Research Cluster Grant as founder of Black Cinema Collective (BCC); the Ottenberg-Winans Fellowship for African Studies (UW), and the 2020 Champion of Seattle Arts (COSA) Award.
