#SocialMedium

October 04, 2014 - January 04, 2015

URL to IRL. It’s that thing where you ♥ an image and that painting goes in an exhibition. You do what you do: Like what you like.

This fall, the Frye Founding Collection is crowd-curated.

The most Liked paintings are being shown in the galleries along with the names and comments of 4,468 people from around the globe who voted on social media for their favorite paintings.

Between Monday, August 11, and Friday, August 22, 2014, photos of our paintings were posted across Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr.

In the spirit of the “citizen curator” celebrated at the Frye in recent exhibitions including The Seattle Project (2010) and Beloved (2012), we are disrupting museum practice and turning the Frye over to you.

There are 232 paintings in the Founding Collection. You decided which are in #SocialMedium. You are the curator.

#SocialMedium is organized by the Frye Art Museum and curated by 4,468 guest curators. The exhibition is funded by the Frye Foundation with the generous support of Frye Art Museum members and donors. It is sponsored by Civilization. Seasonal support is provided by 4Culture, Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, and ArtsFund. Media sponsorship provided by The Stranger.
