Frye Families: Shh! We Have a Plan!

Small Frye is a free monthly program for preschoolers and their caregivers. If you are not able to attend with your kiddo, you can check back here every month for a different art-making activity inspired by a work of art or storybook. To learn more about the program, including how to register, visit our programs page.

In March, we read Shh! We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. Watch the video and reflect on the story with your child using the questions below.

REFLECTING PROMPTS

What was going on in this story? What did you see that makes you say that?

What do you think their plan was? Do you think it worked? Why or why not?

How did they make friends with the birdie? Were they kind or did they force the birdie to be friends?

How can we make friends? What are some things you like to do with your friends?

ARTMAKING

Shh! For this art project, we have a plan! How can you make friends with the squirrel at the end of the book? What would you do with your squirrel friend?

You will need drawing or painting materials and paper, or you can download and print our worksheet. Brainstorm with your child how they could make friends. What are some ways that they could act or things that they could? Choose one plan to illustrate.

And then...After you’ve made friends, what are some fun things you can do with your friend? Encourage your child to draw themselves with their new friend.
