Impresario Serge Pavlovich Diaghilev directed the Ballets Russes, a dance company that revolutionized early twentieth century arts. From 1909 to 1929, Diaghilev collaborated with composers such as Stravinsky, dancers such as Nijinsky, and visual artists including Bakst, Picasso and Matisse to make ballet a truly modern art.
