Join us Friday evening through Saturday afternoon to celebrate the opening of our new exhibitions with fun and engaging events for all ages, including artist talks, music, art making, tours, storytelling, and more!

Friday, June 14

Summer 2024 Member & VIP Exhibitions Opening
6–7:30 pm
We invite Frye members and special guests to join us to celebrate the opening of our latest exhibitions. Enjoy a reception with complimentary refreshments and first access to the exhibitions, along with remarks from the artists and curators. Registration Required.

Summer 2024 Public Exhibitions Opening
7:30–9 pm
Enjoy a preview of the exhibitions and reception with no-host bar. Registration Required.

Saturday, June 15

Stephanie Syjuco and Anida Yoeu Ali in Conversation
11 am–12:15 pm, Auditorium
Join artists Stephanie Syjuco and Anida Yoeu Ali for a deep dive into the complexities of their work, moderated by Frye Art Museum Curatorial Assistant Alexis L. Silva. The conversation will focus on two anchor pieces from their concurrent Seattle exhibitions, Syjuco’s at the Frye and Ali’s at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. Registration Required.

Story Time with Asia Pacific Cultural Center
11:15 am–12 pm, Art Studio 

Hosted by the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, kids of all ages and their care givers are invited to cozy up and enjoy stories from the Philippines, China, and Korea. From folk tales to storybooks, open your imagination to myth, fables, and traditions from around the world. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

Calligraphy with Asia Pacific Cultural Center
12–4:15 pm, Foyer and Art Studio

Stop by one of two calligraphy stations in this drop-in activity and practice the art of calligraphy with Asia Pacific Cultural Center by learning basic characters and brushstrokes present in many languages, including Mandarin and Korean.

ASL Hand Painting with Visually Speaking
12-4:15, Art Studio

Visually Speaking, servicing fingers since 2002, is the leading provider in Seattle for American Sign Language (ASL) instruction and engaging Voices Off Events. Join them in learning more about ASL in Seattle and celebrate Deaf culture with ASL games and hand painting activities.

Gallery-Inspired Art Making
12–4:15 pm, Art Studio

Get creative in the art studio with drop-in projects designed for all ages. They include a Samantha Wall inspired positive/negative space art project, and an altered photography project, guided by the works of Stephanie Syjuco.

Music by Drew Martin
12:30–1:30pm, Foyer
Drew Martin is a songwriter from Maui, Hawaii, performing songs inspired by nature & the places he calls home in the west Maui mountains. His sound is a mix of folk, blues, and Hawaiian slack key guitar.

Frye in Focus | Stephanie Syjuco and Twilight Child
1–1:45 pm, Meet in Rotunda 
Join our knowledgeable Gallery Guides as they facilitate a discussion focusing on the exhibitions Stephanie Syjuco: After/Images and Twilight Child: Antonia Kuo and Martin Wong. Learn more about the exhibitions on view as we highlight individual artworks and discuss overarching themes. 

Antonia Kuo and Mark Johnson in Conversation
3–4:15 pm, Auditorium
Join us for a conversation investigating the ties that bond these two artists born over forty years apart. Moderated by Associate Curator Georgia Erger, exhibiting Artist Antonia Kuo will be joined by Mark Johnson, Professor Emeritus of Art at San Francisco State University and contemporary colleague of Wong’s. Registration Required.
