Art History Lecture Series | Alex Katz (born 1927)

Art History Lectures Series with Rebecca Albiani

Alex Katz’s immediately recognizable portraits and landscapes draw inspiration from billboards and film and have been seen both as reactions to Abstract Expressionism and precursors to Pop Art. Using planes of flat color and careful composition they capture, in his words, “quick things passing.”
