The Legacy of Tom Lloyd: Panel Discussion

The Legacy of Tom Lloyd: Panel Discussion

Learn about the transformative legacy of Tom Lloyd—father, community member, activist, and genre-pushing artist—through a conversation with those who knew him and his work most closely.

Presented in conjunction with the opening Tom Lloyd, a landmark exhibition grounded in extensive new research and conservation work led by the Studio Museum in Harlem, the panel includes Lloyd’s children, Carol Lloyd and Jaleel El Shabazz, alongside Studio Museum curator Connie Choi.

Through this discussion moderated by Frye exhibition curator Tamar Benzikry, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Tom Lloyd’s artistic innovation and enduring advocacy, exploring how he both shaped and challenged the landscape of contemporary art in New York during the 1960s and 1970s.
