Liz and Craig Spiezle

Meet Craig and Liz Spiezle, devoted members of the Frye Art Museum whose love of art has shaped their lives in profound ways. Both were encouraged to explore the arts from an early age. Craig graduated as a photography major and Liz as a graphic designer. “Art has always been an important, joyful part of our lives,” they shared. Now retired, art continues to influence their lives every day, from photography and gardening to their generous spirit of giving.

Craig and Liz’s connection to the Frye began a couple years ago when they were enraptured by Flying Woman: The Paintings of Katherine Bradford. “Katherine’s art was impactful and energizing,” they recalled. Beyond the artwork itself, the Frye staff left a lasting impression. “Immediately we felt engaged and appreciated, and since then, we feel we’ve become part of the Frye community.” This sense of belonging, along with the museum’s mission to provide free access to art for all, resonated deeply and moved them to support the Frye. “The historic collection of Charles and Emma, the exposure to new contemporary art, and the varied exhibits, programs and events are a valued asset to our city,” they added.

Since their first visit, Craig and Liz have come to treasure the unique experience of the Frye Salon. “Seeing over 150 paintings arranged on each wall is a delightful sensory experience. Every time we visit, we see new relationships and synergies with the displays,” they remarked. In addition to the art on display, they enjoy the "energy and quality of programming,” describing how at a recent lecture, “audience members were laughing and cheering—the spirit was infectious.” The Spiezles also value the social connections the Frye fosters and often invite friends for a visit, making sure to enjoy a tasty meal in MariPili at Café Frieda’s creative atmosphere.

Craig and Liz are inspired by the museum’s role in the community. “The arts are essential to a vibrant, healthy community. We admire the generosity of Charles and Emma Frye, ensuring art is accessible for generations. We’re happy to be able to contribute and support Frye’s mission,” they explained.

Thank you, Craig and Liz, for sharing your story and for your generous support, which helps ensure our community continues to enjoy the exhibitions and programs you hold dearly.
